Have you ever felt really uplifted and energized after listening to a motivational talk or after watching an inspirational movie or video? You feel pumped up to achieve whatever you set your mind to achieve! And then what happens? Fast forward a few days or weeks. You are back to ground reality, struggling with everyday challenges and feeling that your life is going no-where. You need another fresh dose of inspiration! Does this sound familiar?
While a wonderfully inspiring person or talk or book could get you highly motivated, the only thing that can sustain the motivation is when you create some rituals that you weave in your daily life. Remember, motivation is what gets you started, habit is what gets you going! So, here are 8 strategies to keep yourself self-motivated!
1. Figure out why you’re doing something. If you don’t have a compelling reason to do something you will never be motivated enough to do it. When you introspect and give yourself a really strong reason why that thing needs to be done, you are more likely to do it. That reason itself becomes the constant reminder that will help you stay motivated! Try it!
2. Keep your vision grand and inspiring. It needs to be magnetic enough to excite you but break down the process of reaching there into small gradual steps, rather than one giant leap. And just start with focusing on that first small step. Every small milestone achieved will boost your motivation and constantly make you feel that you are accomplishing something.
3.Ask yourself powerful questions in the morning. For example,
What am I happy about in my life right now?
What am I excited about in my life right now?
What do I need to do or who do I need to be to live the life of my dreams?
What am I grateful for this morning?
What do I look forward to today?
What reflections came from yesterday?
What is the one thing that I would do differently today?
These morning questions are great because they really trigger powerful, positive feelings and charge you up for the day. Do you know, how you spend and what thoughts you think just as you start the day actually affects your mindset and mood even 8-10 hours later?
4. Keep motivation-boosters all around your home and work area – things that give you that spark to keep going. Create a vision board with your goals and dreams in mind, and fill it up with positive quotes, pictures, thoughts, etc. Pin it up on your office soft-board or your cupboard or refrigerator. Put it as your wallpaper on your phone and laptop. Make a playlist of your favourite motivational talks and songs and keep playing them while travelling, relaxing, or doing your routine chores. These motivators will be the triggers that constantly remind you to keep going.
5.Make a conscious decision to surround yourself with positive people. Reach out and seek the company of those who inspire you. They will help you grow and see opportunities during tough times. Avoid negative and toxic people who constantly drain you and pull you down. Why don’t you become a motivator for someone else? Share your ideas and help to inspire others. Seeing others do well will motivate you to do the same. Remember, the channel is always blessed by what flows through it!
6.Start with something small. When you feel really low, do something small and create a flow. It could be something as organizing your desk. You just need to get started to get the energy moving. When you have finished that small task you’ll feel more energy to do the next thing. Just get the energy moving! So if you really don’t feel like doing anything, start with something small and slowly build up the momentum.
7.Fake it till you make it! If you don’t feel motivated or enthusiastic then simply act like it. The strange thing is that within a few minutes you actually start to feel positive. This is because there is a link between our physiology and our moods. By consciously choosing positive body language, you can actually change your mood. You can also keep repeating this mental mantra, “I am positive, energetic, enthusiastic”, several times a day!
8. Finally, emulate your role models. Read about them, watch them, listen to them. Discover what they did that was special and what made them tick. Remember that they too are men and women just like us. But they used their setbacks in life as fuel for growth and opportunity. Let their life stories inspire you.
Hope you find these tips helpful! Till next time, stay positive, stay motivated! 🙂
